Halloween 2023 at 19 de Abril School
We celebrated Halloween by doing different activities. For example, first graders carried out some physical activities where Halloween was the topic.

Time, now, to our dear language assistant Juliet Barnard who joined fifth graders on the filed trip to see the carriages and learn about our hometown traditions!!!
Today I had the pleasure of the going on a field trip with the 5th grade to learn about the Dos Hermanas festival, ‘La Romería de Valme’. We started off our trip with a service at Parroquia Santa María Magdalena where, along with various other schools, we were able to learn about the religious background of the festival. The service included talks from both the priest and children, as well as songs and gifts. This was particularly interesting for me as, coming from a Protestant country, I’ve never been to a Catholic church service before! Afterwards, we made our way to the site where the carriages are made. I thought that all the carriages were absolutely beautiful, each with their own unique design, and was amazed by the intricate way that they are decorated with paper flowers. This was also a great opportunity to practice English with the kids, as we were able to chat about which carriage was their favourite and what they were most excited about for the day of the festival. Overall, I really enjoyed the trip and I loved getting to learn more about a tradition that is so unique to Dos Hermanas!

Our dear language assistant Adriana Colón is sharing with us in this post her experience when joining students in this field trip!!!
Today I went on a field trip with our 3rd graders to see the carriages prepared for “La Romería de Valme”. They were big and filled with plenty of different colors, shapes, and designs. This offered me the perfect opportunity to interact and create a deeper connection with the students, because I could ask them a variety of questions concerning these types of topics. For example: which one was their favorite, what color did they like the most, if they liked the flowers on them, and so on. Also, during the tour we got a demonstration on how the flowers were made, and when we got back to the classroom the students made their own. The entire experience was truly meaningful to me, not only did I had the chance to learn about the history and traditions of Dos Hermanas, but I had the chance to communicate and have enjoyable conversations with different students.
